What are chambelanes at a quinceañera?

In short

Chambelanes

Chambelanes are the young men who make up a quinceañera's court together with the damas: they escort her at the entrance and dance the court's choreography. In the waltz, her chambelán comes in last or in a round of his own, after the family.

The court is optional: there are quinceañeras with a waltz and no court, and parties at home with neither. If you have one, plan for three things:

  • Choosing them early. The chambelanes and the damas are chosen four to six months ahead, along with the dress and the theme.
  • Rehearsals. The waltz and the court’s dance get the most rehearsal and are the first things to fall behind; set a schedule from the start.
  • Talking with their families about outfits and rehearsals.

The entrance is the photo everyone is waiting for. The DJ and the photographer need to know where the quinceañera comes in, to which song and who goes first.
